So my ‘Project Hip-Hop’ group of young singers, MCs and beatboxer will be performing live at Leeds Museum on Saturday 22nd November!
They have created their own all vocal remix of Afrika Bambaataa’s “Planet Rock” and they will get to perform it in from of the man himself!
Afrika Bambataa is giving a talk at Leeds Museum to celebrate Hip-Hops 40th Anniversary, along with some great performances from local artists.
Originally from the Bronx NY, Afrika Bambaataa is one of the godfather’s of Hip-Hop music. This innovator is world renowned for his pivotal influence on Hip-Hop as an art form, culture and social movement. He made “Peace, Unity, Love and Having Fun” the core of the Hip-Hop explosion.
His composition ‘Planet Rock’ is ground breaking anthem from 1982 – it is not only a Hip-Hop classic, but spawned multiple genres of music in the years that followed.
This term, the Project Hip-Hop participants have only their voices to work with using singing, beatboxing, rapping and vocal sound FX to remix the legendary song. So far they’ve had great ideas and I can’t wait see it live!
The event on 22nd Nov at Leeds Museum is free entry and runs from 11am-5pm.
