Rap is a great tool to build self-confidence through performance and inspire creativity.
Students develop literacy skills and creative writing techniques through producing self-written raps. Their input can be used to create a live performance or recording.
Key to the process is the input from students themselves. Students are guided toward writing in a positive way, whilst reflecting their individual ideas through rap and performance. Personal and social development is encouraged through expressing thoughts and ideas through lyric writing and working together.
Workshops typically include a rap icebreaker and an exciting demonstration of ‘freestyle rap’ (a completely improvised spontaneous performance). The raps composed in the workshop can performed to backing tracks or live human beatbox.
I offer one-off sessions, workshop programmes, off-curriculum days as well as inspirational assembly talks on a variety of topics. Rap workshops are tailored to meet the specific needs of the students, school and scheme of work.
